USD/JPY – Daily Read

8 November 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$158.47

USD/JPY is pressing the top of its one-month range at 158.47 after finishing the last session 0.4 percent higher, which means the market is testing whether an established advance can extend rather than merely rebounding inside a broader range. The directional view remains constructive because price strength is persistent, the pullbacks have not damaged the rising structure, and the market is now close enough to resistance for the next decisive move to carry real information.

The macro impulse remains the relative outlook for US and Japanese rates, alongside sensitivity to official concern over yen weakness, because shifts in that balance are expressed directly through USD/JPY. Instrument-specific pressure is clear: the one month average is 157.97, price is above it, and the structure reads as a clean uptrend, with price above both its one-month and longer averages. The pair is also roughly 1.0 percent up over the last two weeks, which means upward pressure has been steady enough to keep defensive positioning uncomfortable without yet looking like a disorderly surge.

The immediate test is the month swing high at 158.95, about 0.3 percent above the current price, because it marks the point where recent supply has previously capped the advance. A decisive move above 158.95 opens the path toward 160.88, the upper edge of the three month range from 152.88 to 160.88, which means acceptance beyond the recent high would shift attention from local resistance to the broader range ceiling. The 160.00 handle matters inside that path because round numbers often concentrate positioning and official rhetoric. Below, a shelf of support at 156.07, about 1.5 percent below, is the key structural defense because it separates a controlled pullback from a more meaningful deterioration. The nearer 155.00 handle would then become important because failure to stabilize there would leave the lower range increasingly exposed.

The bull path is straightforward: if USD/JPY clears 158.95 decisively and holds above it, then the move can extend through 160.00 toward 160.88 because former resistance would have been converted into support and the broader uptrend would remain intact. The bear path begins if rejection near 158.95 pushes price back below 157.97; if that weakness then takes out 156.07, it exposes 152.88 because the shelf defending the current advance would have failed. In that sequence, 155.00 may slow the decline, but it would not repair the structure without a recovery back through 156.07.

The principal risk to the constructive read is a sharp change in rate expectations or stronger official resistance to yen depreciation, because USD/JPY can reverse quickly when positioning is concentrated near prominent highs. Sustained trade below 156.07 would invalidate the immediate bullish view, while inability to hold 152.88 would signal damage beyond a routine correction. Net, the pair remains upward biased above 156.07, but conviction strengthens only above 158.95 because that break would confirm room toward 160.88.
