Nikkei 225 (NKY) – Daily Read

7 November 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
61,077.9

The Nikkei 225 at 61,078 is under clear pressure after finishing the last session 1.8 percent lower, and the market is trading in the lower half of its one-month range. That matters because weakness is no longer confined to a single poor session: the broader structure shows supply controlling rebounds and confidence fading when the index approaches nearby resistance. The near-term view remains bearish unless price can reclaim lost ground decisively, although the remaining distance to major support leaves room for sharp countertrend rallies.

The one-month average at 64,815 now stands above price, and the structure reads as a downtrend, with price under both its one-month and longer averages. The roughly 5.5 percent decline over the last two weeks reinforces that message because recent losses have developed quickly enough to keep participants defensive rather than encourage sustained risk-taking. The relevant macro backdrop is uncertainty around global growth and policy expectations, which means Japan’s equity benchmark remains sensitive to shifts in overseas risk appetite and the outlook for export-facing companies. Until the index stabilizes, rallies are more likely to test conviction than confirm recovery.

The nearer round number handles at 62,000 and 61,000 define the immediate contest. Holding 61,000 would preserve a base close to the current market, while a sustained recovery through 62,000 would show that demand can absorb overhead supply and begin repairing the short-term tone. Failure to defend 61,000 would leave the shelf of support at 56,746, about 7.1 percent below, as the next meaningful line. That shelf matters because it is also the floor of the three-month range of 56,746 to 70,799. At the opposite extreme, the month swing high at 70,799 sits about 15.9 percent above the current price, which means substantial repair is required before the broader downtrend can be called broken.

The bull path is straightforward: if 61,000 holds and the index regains 62,000, then pressure can ease and attention can return to 64,815 as the first meaningful test of trend repair. If that recovery extends into a decisive move above 70,799, then the path opens toward 71,799 because the ceiling of the recent range would have given way. The bear path is equally clear: if 61,000 fails and rebounds remain capped beneath 62,000, then 56,746 becomes increasingly vulnerable. Losing 56,746 exposes 55,746 because the established range floor would no longer be containing the decline.

The principal risk to the bearish read is a fast recovery that holds above 64,815 and builds toward 70,799, because that would show the recent decline was being absorbed rather than extended. Conversely, repeated failure around 61,000 would strengthen the negative case, while a break beneath 56,746 would invalidate any expectation of range stabilization. Net, the Nikkei 225 remains defensively positioned below its key averages, with tactical recovery possible but durable control staying bearish until resistance is reclaimed and held.
