Nikkei 225 (NKY) – Daily Read

6 November 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
57,379.3

The Nikkei 225 is in a forceful liquidation phase, with 57,379 marking a last session change of 7.7 percent lower and leaving the index down near the floor of its one-month range. The immediate view is defensive because a decline of that speed damages confidence, forces investors to reduce exposure, and makes stabilization more important than attempting to anticipate a durable reversal. This is not yet orderly weakness. It is a market searching for evidence that forced pressure has run its course.

The broader macro backdrop matters only insofar as uncertainty around global growth, policy, currencies, and risk appetite can amplify moves in an export-sensitive Japanese index, while the immediate catalyst is the index’s own sharp repricing. The one month average is 64,630, and price is below it, while the structure reads as a downtrend, price under both its one-month and longer averages. Momentum is roughly 11.2 percent down over the last two weeks, which means rallies can encounter trapped positioning and renewed supply before sentiment genuinely resets.

The first contest is around the nearer round number handles at 58,000 and 57,000 because they provide simple reference points for short-term positioning after a disorderly session. Recovering 58,000 and holding above it would suggest the market is beginning to absorb supply, while sustained trade below 57,000 would keep pressure focused on a shelf of support at 56,746, about 1.1 percent below. That shelf matters because it is also the bottom of the three month range 56,746 to 70,799. At the opposite extreme, the month swing high is 70,799, about 23.4 percent above the current price, so it represents major resistance and the boundary between recovery and a genuine structural reversal.

The bull path is conditional: if 56,746 holds, 57,000 is reclaimed, and price then establishes itself above 58,000, the collapse can begin to look like exhaustion rather than continuing acceleration. From there, the burden remains on the index to work back toward 64,630 because regaining that area would weaken the downtrend reading and improve the quality of any recovery. If strength eventually produces a decisive move above 70,799, it opens the path toward 71,799. The bear path is cleaner: if rebounds fail beneath 58,000 and the index loses 56,746, that confirms the range floor has broken and exposes 56,000 as the next downside reference.

The principal risk to the bearish view is a rapid recovery through 57,000 and 58,000 that persists, because that would show the shock is being absorbed faster than the session loss implies. Even then, 64,630 must be recovered before the broader damage can be treated as repaired. Conversely, failure at those nearer handles followed by a break of 56,746 would invalidate the stabilization case and reinforce downside continuation toward 56,000. Net, the Nikkei 225 remains vulnerable, with support close enough to permit a rebound but the burden of proof firmly on the bulls.
