FTSE 100 (UKX) – Daily Read
28 August 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk
10,807.5
FTSE 100 is holding firm rather than breaking higher, with the last price 10,808, 0.1 percent higher on the day. The index remains underpinned by an upward longer-term trend, but the immediate structure is corrective and lacks the force needed to confirm another leg higher. That distinction matters: underlying demand is intact, yet buyers still need to reclaim nearby resistance before the market can shift from consolidation back into expansion.
The macro backdrop offers mixed support. Hotter than expected inflation prints in France and Spain lifted near term European rate expectations, while steady Japanese labour data and modest upside in Tokyo CPI kept the BoJ policy path intact. EURUSD and GBPUSD both fell over half a percent as the dollar gained ground. For UK equities, that currency move can support overseas earners through translation effects, but firmer rate expectations in Europe limit enthusiasm across the broader regional index complex. The result is a balanced regime into the weekend, with currency support offset by caution around rates and global risk appetite.
The index is sitting mid-range over the past month, which fits a market absorbing earlier gains rather than establishing a fresh directional move. The one month average 10,815 is the immediate pivot; price is below it, and the structure reads as a pullback, slipping under the one-month average while the longer trend still points up. Reclaiming that area would show that buyers are regaining control of the short-term structure. Price is roughly 0.8 percent up over the last two weeks, so the pullback has not yet erased the recent positive impulse.
The month swing high 10,990, about 1.7 percent above the current price, is the key ceiling because it also marks the upper boundary of the three month range 10,151 to 10,990. Supply is likely to defend that prior extreme as holders take profits and breakout buyers wait for confirmation. The nearer round number handles at 11,000 and 10,750 frame the immediate contest. Holding 10,750 would preserve a relatively shallow pullback, while sustained trade above 11,000 would reinforce acceptance beyond the old range. Below, a shelf of support at 10,684, about 1.1 percent below, is the more important defence. It separates routine consolidation from a deeper structural setback.
If buyers reclaim 10,815, hold 10,750 on any retest and build pressure beneath the range ceiling, then a decisive move above 10,990 opens the path toward 11,000. If sellers keep price below 10,815 and force acceptance under 10,750, then pressure should migrate toward 10,684. If that shelf fails, losing 10,684 exposes 10,151.
The main risk to the constructive view is that dollar strength stops helping internationally exposed constituents and instead signals broader defensive positioning. A failure at 10,990 followed by a loss of 10,684 would invalidate the shallow-pullback thesis. Net, the trend remains constructive, but conviction belongs above resistance; until then, this is consolidation with a modest upward bias.
