AUD/USD – Daily Read

3 October 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
0.6958

AUD/USD is attempting a modest rebound, but the broader structure still favors selling strength rather than chasing the bounce. Last price 0.6958, 0.3 percent higher on the day, yet it is down near the floor of its one-month range. That combination matters because a positive session can improve near-term sentiment without repairing the underlying damage. The clear view is cautious: buyers have regained some ground, but they have not yet demonstrated that the decline has run its course.

The macro backdrop is a contest between relative growth expectations, global risk appetite, and the policy outlook on each side of the pair. The Australian dollar tends to benefit when confidence in global demand improves and investors are willing to own economically sensitive currencies. The US dollar tends to regain control when caution rises or the relative US outlook looks firmer. For this instrument, the immediate problem is persistent downside pressure. Momentum roughly 2.3 percent down over the last two weeks shows that sellers have controlled the recent path, while today’s gain looks more like stabilization than a confirmed turn.

The one month average 0.7070 is the first important recovery test. Price is below it, and the structure reads as a downtrend, price under both its one-month and longer averages. A sustained recovery through 0.7070 would indicate that supply above the market is being absorbed and that buyers are starting to rebuild control. Before that, 0.7000 is the nearer round number handle. It is a practical sentiment boundary because holding above it would reduce immediate pressure and give the rebound room to mature.

The three month range 0.6907 to 0.7241 defines the larger battlefield. A shelf of support at 0.6907, about 0.7 percent below, is defending the range floor and is therefore the key line for buyers. Holding it preserves the possibility that the market is forming a base. Losing it would confirm that repeated demand there has failed. The month swing high 0.7241, about 4.1 percent above the current price, marks the opposite boundary and the point where the downtrend thesis would face serious challenge. The lower round number handle at 0.6800 is the next natural destination if support gives way.

The bull path is straightforward: if 0.6907 continues to hold, then a recovery through 0.7000 can target 0.7070. If buyers establish acceptance above that average, then pressure can shift toward the range ceiling. A decisive move above 0.7241 opens the path toward 0.7441, because that break would remove the main overhead reference and signal a broader change in control.

The bear path is equally clear: if rallies fail below 0.7000 and 0.7070, then sellers retain the structural advantage. If renewed pressure loses 0.6907, then that breakdown exposes 0.6800 and argues that the recent range was distribution rather than accumulation.

The main risk to the cautious view is a durable recovery above 0.7070 followed by a decisive clearance of 0.7241. The bullish case is invalidated by failure at 0.6907. Net, the bounce deserves respect, but the burden of proof remains with buyers while price stays beneath the key recovery barriers.
