AUD/USD – Daily Read

25 September 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
0.7017

AUD/USD is trying to stabilize at 0.7017, 0.1 percent higher on the day, but the balance of evidence still favors caution before recovery. The pair is down near the floor of its one-month range and remains below its one month average at 0.7139. That makes the current move a pullback within a longer trend that still points up, rather than a confirmed reversal. The distinction matters because buyers have a credible structural case, but they need to absorb near-term selling before the broader advance can resume.

The macro tension is familiar for this pair. AUD/USD is caught between the Australian dollar’s sensitivity to global growth, commodity demand, China-linked sentiment and broader risk appetite, and the US dollar’s sensitivity to relative rate expectations and demand for liquidity. Any improvement in growth confidence or firmer commodity sentiment would help the Australian side, while a more defensive market or renewed support for the US dollar would keep pressure on the pair. The roughly 1.6 percent decline over the last two weeks shows that sellers retain tactical control even as the longer trend remains constructive. The month swing high at 0.7241, about 3.2 percent above the current price, therefore represents unfinished work rather than an immediate target.

The first meaningful defense is the shelf of support at 0.7007, about 0.1 percent below. This area matters because it sits immediately beneath the market and close to the 0.7000 round number handle, where positioning and discretionary demand are likely to concentrate. Holding that zone would show that sellers are struggling to convert the pullback into a deeper decline. Losing 0.7007 would instead expose 0.6909, the bottom of the three month range from 0.6909 to 0.7241, and would materially weaken the argument that this is only a contained retracement.

On the upside, the one month average at 0.7139 is the first level that would signal repaired structure. Above it, the 0.7200 round number handle becomes the next test because reclaiming it would place price back near the upper boundary of recent trade. The decisive hurdle is 0.7241. A decisive move above 0.7241 opens the path toward 0.7400 and would confirm that buyers have regained control beyond the existing range.

The bull path is straightforward: if 0.7007 and 0.7000 hold, then stabilization can develop into a recovery through 0.7139; if that recovery also clears 0.7200, then pressure can build on 0.7241 and ultimately 0.7400. The bear path begins if 0.7007 fails. If sellers then keep price below 0.7000, the market is likely to probe 0.6909, with the longer-term uptrend increasingly vulnerable.

The principal risk to the constructive view is sustained US dollar strength combined with weaker global risk appetite. The bearish read would be invalidated by a firm reclaim of 0.7139 followed by acceptance above 0.7241. Net, AUD/USD retains an upward longer-term bias, but near-term control remains with sellers until support proves durable and the pair starts reclaiming lost ground.
