USD/JPY – Daily Read

7 November 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$158.47

USD/JPY is testing the upper edge of its recent map, with the last price at 158.47 and the last session change 0.4 percent higher. The move matters because it is pressing the top of its one-month range while retaining an orderly upward structure, rather than arriving there through a single unstable surge. The clear view is constructive but selective: upward pressure remains dominant, yet the pair is close enough to established resistance that confirmation now matters more than simply extending the recent direction.

The broader currency backdrop is relevant because USD/JPY remains highly sensitive to shifts in relative policy expectations and yield demand, which means conviction can change quickly when that relationship moves. Instrument-specific price action is still firm. The one month average 157.97 sits below the market, and price is above both its one-month and longer averages, so the structure reads as a clean uptrend. Momentum roughly 1.0 percent up over the last two weeks reinforces that view because progress has persisted across sessions rather than depending only on the latest move.

The month swing high 158.95 is the immediate test, about 0.3 percent above the current price, because it marks the point where recent upward attempts have met supply. A decisive move above 158.95 opens the path toward 160.88, the upper boundary of the three month range 152.88 to 160.88, which means acceptance above the recent high would shift attention from local resistance to the wider range ceiling. The nearer round number handle at 160.00 matters within that path because it can attract hesitation before 160.88. Below, a shelf of support at 156.07, about 1.5 percent below, is the key defense of the current structure. The nearer round number handle at 155.00 then becomes relevant because losing 156.07 would weaken the sequence of higher ground and leave less protection before deeper range support.

The bull path is straightforward: if 158.95 gives way decisively and the pair holds above it, then 160.00 should become the next pressure point, followed by a test of 160.88 because the market would have cleared the one-month ceiling while preserving the clean uptrend. The bear path begins if resistance at 158.95 continues to contain advances and price rotates lower. If 156.07 then fails, losing 156.07 exposes 152.88, which means the move would no longer look like a shallow pause near the highs but a broader retracement through the three-month range.

The main risk to the constructive read is a sharp reversal in the rate relationship that has supported this currency pair, because USD/JPY can reprice faster than its recent orderly pattern suggests. Price provides the clean invalidation: sustained trade below 156.07 would damage the near-term case, while movement through 155.00 would confirm that sellers control the middle of the range. Conversely, failure to hold above 158.95 after an apparent break would warn that the move lacked acceptance. Net, the bias remains upward while 156.07 holds, but 158.95 must clear decisively before 160.00 and 160.88 become the dominant path.
