GBP/USD – Daily Read

1.3429
GBP/USD at 1.3429 is attempting to rebuild a constructive trend despite finishing the last session 0.2 percent lower. The pair is holding in the upper half of its one-month range, which means the recent setback looks more like hesitation than a decisive reversal. The near-term view remains cautiously bullish because sterling has recovered enough ground to challenge overhead resistance, but confirmation is still missing and the market must prove that demand can persist beyond the current range.
The one month average at 1.3352 is the key reference for that recovery attempt because price is back above the one-month average but still under the longer one. That combination shows improving short-term control without establishing a broader advance. The pair is roughly 0.4 percent up over the last two weeks, which means underlying progress has been positive but measured rather than forceful. The broader foreign exchange backdrop matters through changes in relative rate expectations and dollar demand because either can reinforce or interrupt sterling’s attempt to extend this recovery.
The first test is the month swing high at 1.3503, about 0.5 percent above the current price, because it marks the point where recent advances have met sufficient pressure to stall. A decisive move above 1.3503 would show that this supply has been absorbed and would open the path toward 1.3675. Before that extension, the nearer round number handle at 1.3600 should act as resistance because traders are likely to reassess conviction around a prominent reference point. On the downside, 1.3400 is the immediate support handle because holding it keeps price close to the upper part of the recent range. The deeper shelf at 1.3139, about 2.2 percent below, is more important structurally because it is also the floor of the three month range at 1.3139 to 1.3675.
The bull path is straightforward: if GBP/USD holds 1.3400, remains above 1.3352 and then closes decisively through 1.3503, the recovery should gain credibility because the market would have defended its nearer base and cleared the month swing high. In that case, 1.3600 becomes the next resistance test, and sustained strength there would leave 1.3675 exposed. The bear path begins if 1.3400 fails and price cannot regain 1.3352, because that would turn the recovery attempt into another rejected advance. Continued weakness toward 1.3139 would then test the entire three-month structure, and losing 1.3139 exposes 1.2939.
The principal risk to the constructive view is a renewed dollar surge or sterling-specific repricing that drives the pair below 1.3352 and prevents a quick recovery, because that would show the recent improvement lacked durable sponsorship. A break beneath 1.3139 would invalidate the bullish read and shift control firmly toward 1.2939. Net, GBP/USD retains an upward bias while 1.3400 and 1.3352 hold, but 1.3503 remains the proof point that separates a credible extension from a recovery that is merely running out of room.
Key levels: support 1.3139 (2.2% below), resistance 1.3503 (0.5% above), one-month average 1.3352, three-month range 1.3139 to 1.3675.
