USD/JPY – Daily Read

1 November 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$157.54

USD/JPY at 157.54 is consolidating within a broader upward trend, but the immediate tone is softer after finishing the last session 0.1 percent lower. It is sitting mid-range over the past month, which means neither side has control at current levels. The clear view is cautiously constructive, because the longer trend still points up, but confirmation requires the recent pullback to stop and nearby resistance to give way.

The one month average is 157.92, and price is below it, so the structure reads as a pullback, slipping under the one-month average while the longer trend still points up. Price performance is roughly 0.3 percent down over the last two weeks, which means the market has lost some upward force without yet producing a broader reversal. The wider backdrop remains governed by the dollar-yen rate gap and sensitivity to policy rhetoric, because either can quickly amplify a move once the current range breaks.

The month swing high at 158.95, about 0.9 percent above the current price, is the first meaningful resistance because it marks where the latest upward attempt ran out of demand. A decisive move above 158.95 would show that the pullback has been absorbed and would bring the nearer round number handle at 160.00 into focus. On the downside, a shelf of support at 156.07, about 0.9 percent below, matters because it is the nearest area where the broader upward structure can still be defended. The 155.00 handle provides another psychological reference beneath it, but a sustained loss of that zone would materially weaken the constructive case. The three month range of 152.88 to 163.95 defines the larger battlefield, which means moves beyond the nearer boundaries can travel further than the subdued recent action suggests.

The bull path is straightforward: if USD/JPY reclaims 157.92, holds above it, and then makes a decisive move above 158.95, that opens the path toward 163.95 because resistance from the month swing high would have been cleared and the longer upward trend would be reasserting itself. The bear path begins if rebounds continue to fail below 157.92 and pressure carries through 156.07. Losing 156.07 exposes 152.88, which means the pullback would have developed into a deeper retracement rather than a temporary pause, with 155.00 unlikely to provide more than an intermediate test unless price stabilizes there.

The main risk to the constructive view is a sharp shift in rate expectations or policy language, because USD/JPY can gap through nearby levels when positioning adjusts quickly. The read is invalidated on a sustained break below 156.07, with failure to stabilize around 155.00 reinforcing the route toward 152.88. Conversely, acceptance above 158.95 would invalidate the near-term bearish pressure and strengthen the case for 160.00, followed by 163.95. Net, 157.54 favors patience with a mild upward bias, because the longer trend remains intact while the market proves whether this pullback can hold support.
