The Business, in Plain Words

Glass maker numbers look solid but cycle lurks

Picture a construction boom that suddenly stalls when interest rates bite and projects get postponed. Tecnoglass supplies the architectural glass and aluminium frames that fill those buildings across Colombia and the US. Revenue is growing 12 percent, margins sit at 15 percent and return on equity reaches 21 percent, all on a forward multiple of 13 times. The ethical screen clears without issue.

Yet this remains a classic cyclical business where peak earnings often coincide with the lowest multiples. The shares trade above our fair value estimate and carry no opportunity rating, so the apparent cheapness may simply reflect the next downturn rather than a bargain. Analyst targets sit higher but offer little comfort when demand can swing sharply with housing and commercial spending.

Risk centres on that economic sensitivity plus limited visibility into any durable moat. Currency moves between Colombia and the US add another layer of volatility that can erode reported profits quickly. Analysis, not advice.

The risks · The things to watch: it's a small-cap, so the share price can swing harder than the market; it already moves more than the market on an average day.
