The Business, in Plain Words

Office floors keep getting replaced but cycles bite

Walk into any refurbished office or hotel and the carpet tiles underfoot likely came from a handful of specialists who ship modular flooring around the world. Interface sits in that supply chain, posting 11% revenue growth, a 9% profit margin and a 22% return on equity while trading at 14.2 times forward earnings with an ethical screen cleared.

Yet the opportunity rating stays at none. The business is squarely cyclical, tied to commercial construction and refurbishment spending that rises and falls with economic confidence. A low multiple on current earnings can simply mark peak profits rather than a bargain, and an unknown moat leaves little protection if larger rivals or cheaper imports move in.

Currency swings, raw-material costs and sudden drops in fit-out budgets remain the real risks here, even with the modest 11% gap to the median analyst target. The numbers are respectable but they do not overcome the sector's timing problem.
