USD/JPY – Daily Read

26 October 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$157.02

USD/JPY is consolidating within an intact longer-term advance, but the near-term balance has softened. The last price is 157.02 after finishing the last session 0.1 percent higher, yet it remains in the lower half of its one-month range. That combination matters because modest daily firmness has not repaired the broader pullback. The clear view is cautiously constructive above nearby support, with conviction requiring the market to reclaim the recent ceiling.

Against a backdrop where relative rate expectations and sensitivity to official concern remain the main macro transmission channels, USD/JPY is being driven by whether yield support can outweigh resistance to further yen weakness. The one month average is 157.87, and price is below it, so the structure reads as a pullback, slipping under the one-month average while the longer trend still points up. Momentum is roughly 1.0 percent down over the last two weeks, which means the market has lost urgency without yet proving that the larger advance has reversed.

The immediate test overhead is the month swing high at 158.95, about 1.2 percent above the current price. That level matters because it marks where the latest advance failed and where supply has already absorbed upward pressure. A decisive move above 158.95 opens the path toward 163.99, the upper boundary of the three month range at 152.88 to 163.99. Before that extension can gain traction, the nearer round number handle at 160.00 is likely to act as resistance because psychologically important levels often attract profit taking and defensive positioning. On the downside, a shelf of support at 156.07 sits about 0.6 percent below. It is important because holding it would preserve a higher base within the broader range, while losing 156.07 exposes 152.88. The nearer round number handle at 155.00 would then become a key support test between the broken shelf and the range floor.

The bull path is straightforward: if 156.07 continues to absorb pressure and price recovers 157.87, then the pullback begins to look corrective rather than structural. If that recovery produces a decisive move above 158.95, then 160.00 becomes the next resistance to clear, after which the route toward 163.99 opens with stronger trend confirmation. The bear path begins if rebounds repeatedly fail below 157.87 because that would show overhead supply controlling the tape. If 156.07 then gives way, 155.00 becomes vulnerable, and sustained weakness below that handle would expose 152.88 while shifting the longer advance into a materially deeper correction.

The main risk to the constructive view is a sharp repricing of relative rates or stronger official resistance to yen weakness, because either could overwhelm support without much warning. A sustained break beneath 156.07, followed by failure at 155.00, would invalidate the idea that this is merely a contained pullback. Conversely, acceptance above 158.95 would invalidate the cautious near-term stance. Net, USD/JPY remains upwardly biased over the longer horizon, but at 157.02 the burden is on the market to reclaim resistance before momentum deserves full confidence.
