Gold (XAU/USD) – Daily Read

25 October 2026 | Commodity | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$4,039.90

Gold is under clear near-term pressure at $4,040 after finishing the last session 2.8 percent lower, and that matters because the decline has pushed it near the floor of its one-month range rather than merely trimming an extended advance. The structure reads as a downtrend, with price under both its one-month and longer averages, while momentum is roughly 3.0 percent down over the last two weeks. The immediate view is defensive until price proves that this deterioration has run its course.

The macro backdrop matters chiefly through real-rate and dollar expectations because gold is especially sensitive to changes in the opportunity cost of holding a non-yielding asset. The instrument-specific pressure is visible in its failure to sustain levels around the one month average of $4,224, which has left that reference point overhead and turned rebounds into tests of damaged structure. The month swing high at $4,489, about 11.1 percent above the current price, further shows how much ground has been surrendered and how substantial the repair would need to be.

The first support is the shelf at $4,037, about 0.08 percent below, because its proximity means the market has almost no cushion before testing whether demand remains committed near the range floor. The nearer round number handles at $4,100 and $4,000 matter for different reasons: $4,100 is immediate resistance that would need to be reclaimed to reduce downside pressure, while $4,000 is a psychological support around which defensive interest may concentrate. The wider three month range of $3,993 to $4,760 defines the larger battlefield, because $3,993 sits just beneath the round-number floor and $4,760 marks the opposite extreme. Holding above $4,037 would preserve the possibility that the present move is exhaustion near support; losing it would confirm that the floor is no longer being defended effectively.

The bull path is straightforward: if $4,037 holds, then a recovery through $4,100 would show that nearby supply is being absorbed, and sustained progress back above $4,224 would begin to challenge the downtrend. If that repair extends into a decisive move above $4,489, it opens the path toward $4,760 because the market would have cleared the month swing high and removed the most important visible resistance. The bear path is equally clear: if pressure keeps price beneath $4,100 and losing $4,037 exposes $3,993, then a break of $3,993 would move gold below the three month range and signal a deeper structural deterioration.

The principal risk to the bearish read is a sharp recovery that holds above $4,224, because that would show the market has regained its one month average and weakened the case that rallies remain constrained. Full invalidation requires a decisive move above $4,489, while failure to defend $4,037 keeps $3,993 exposed. Net, gold remains vulnerable near support, with stabilization possible but trend repair still requiring clear evidence above resistance.
