Five Screens, Shown in Full

Full pass across all five screens. This security clears the Titan Ethical Standard: its business and its balance sheet both stay inside the lines.

TestFigureLimitWhat it meansStatus
Business activity Permissible Core business clean Its core business isn't built on prohibited lines: no gambling, alcohol, tobacco, weapons, or interest-based lending. Pass
Debt load 15.69% Below 33% Interest-bearing debt is just 15.7% of its assets, well under the one-third ceiling: it does not run on borrowed money. Pass
Interest-bearing cash 0.00% Below 33% Cash held in interest-bearing accounts and securities is 0.0% of assets, under the one-third limit. Pass
Receivables 8.60% Below 49% Money owed to the company is 8.6% of assets, under the 49% limit. Pass
Revenue purity 0.95% Below 5% Only 0.9% of revenue comes from non-compliant sources, under the 5% line. Pass

Five checks adapted from AAOIFI screening standards: business activity plus four balance-sheet ratios. All five must pass for ethical clearance. Every figure is arithmetic on public accounts, not judgement.

Reading the gap · Our more conservative model reads it as fully-to-richly valued here, while the Street is more bullish: a quality-at-a-fair-price name rather than a deep-value one.

The Business, in Plain Words

Shipping lanes look busy but the price does not

Every time a container ship pulls into Honolulu or Anchorage, Matson keeps the islands stocked with cars, food and building materials. The business clears a 13 percent profit margin and 16 percent return on equity, numbers that look solid on the surface. Yet revenue is already falling 3 percent and our fair value sits 17 percent below the current share price, so we pass.

The forward multiple of 14.4 times earnings may tempt buyers hunting for value in a cyclical trade. Peak shipping rates often produce exactly this pattern, low multiples that simply reflect earnings about to normalise lower. Analyst targets sit higher, but we see no margin of safety once the cycle turns.

Currency swings, fuel costs and sudden drops in freight demand remain live threats even though the ethical screen is clear. The combination of stretched valuation and cyclical exposure leaves no room for error. Analysis, not advice.
