The Ethical Read

Why It Falls Short, in Plain English

Genworth Financial, does not clear the screen at the business-activity stage. It operates in conventional financial services, which the screen treats as interest-based, so the financial ratios are not the deciding factor here.

Read as at 2026-10-04. It updates when the underlying figures move, and past reads are kept below.

The Business, in Plain Words

Insurance Cover Rarely Survives Close Ethical Scrutiny

Picture a family paying premiums for decades only to discover the fine print leaves them exposed when claims arrive. Genworth sits in exactly that line of work, selling mortgage and long term care policies through its two main segments. The numbers show flat revenue, a 3 percent profit margin and 3 percent return on equity, so the business already offers little room for error.

We pass for the clearest reason possible. The ethical screen rejects the entire insurance sector outright, and nothing in the current figures changes that view. A 9.2 times forward multiple and a single analyst target of twelve dollars against a ten dollar share price look cheap only until the sector ban is applied.

Low returns and zero growth already signal limited durability even before ethics enter the frame. Currency or claims shocks would simply widen the gap. Analysis, not advice.
