EUR/GBP – Daily Read

0.8600
EUR/GBP is leaning higher despite a modest daily retreat, and the important point is that buyers remain in control near the top of the recent range. Last price is 0.8600, 0.1 percent lower on the day, but that softness looks more like hesitation beneath resistance than a reversal. The pair is pressing the top of its one-month range, so the next clean move should carry more information than the current pause. The bias remains bullish while support holds, although buying directly beneath the range ceiling offers less attractive risk than buying a confirmed break or a defended pullback.
The macro argument rests on relative policy expectations. The euro is drawing support from a market that sees the European Central Bank maintaining a firmer stance, while sterling remains vulnerable if the Bank of England cannot validate the tightening path embedded in expectations. Energy-driven inflation uncertainty complicates both sides, but the cross is responding to the perceived policy gap rather than simply to broad risk appetite. That distinction matters because EUR/GBP can rise even when both currencies struggle elsewhere. Momentum is roughly 0.5 percent up over the last two weeks, confirming steady euro demand rather than a single-session squeeze.
The one month average at 0.8583 is the first structural reference. Price is above it, and the structure reads as a clean uptrend, with price above both its one-month and longer averages. Holding that zone would show that buyers are still willing to defend shallow setbacks. The nearer round number handle at 0.8600 is the immediate pivot: acceptance above it keeps pressure on the month swing high at 0.8612, about 0.1 percent above the current price. That high matters because it marks the visible supply capping the advance. A decisive move above 0.8612 opens the path toward 0.8651, the upper boundary of the three month range of 0.8489 to 0.8651. Clearing that boundary would turn a contained rise into a broader breakout, with the nearer round number handle at 0.8800 becoming a longer-horizon extension rather than an immediate target.
On the bull path, if buyers absorb supply at 0.8612 and the market holds above it, then the move should extend toward 0.8651 as sellers retreat and breakout demand joins the trend. If 0.8651 is then accepted rather than briefly tested, the market can begin building toward 0.8800. On the bear path, if repeated failure at 0.8612 pushes price back through 0.8583, then the advance loses quality and attention shifts to the shelf of support at 0.8549, about 0.6 percent below. Losing 0.8549 exposes 0.8489 because that break would remove the main support separating the current uptrend from the bottom of the broader range.
The principal risk is a sharp repricing of relative central-bank expectations, particularly if the Bank of England sounds more forceful than the European Central Bank or UK fiscal concerns fade enough to restore sterling demand. Sustained trade below 0.8549 would invalidate the bullish structure, while rejection above 0.8612 without follow-through would warn that the range remains dominant. Net, the euro retains the advantage, but confirmation above resistance is preferable to anticipation.
