Nikkei 225 (NKY) – Daily Read
24 September 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk
65,910.9
Nikkei 225 is attempting to turn a rebound into a broader recovery, with buyers regaining control of the near-term structure but not yet proving that the larger correction is over. Last price 65,911, 1.4 percent higher on the day. It is holding in the upper half of its one-month range. The clear view is constructive while price remains above nearby support, but conviction should increase only after the market clears the latest swing high.
The macro backdrop remains important because equity indices are sensitive to shifts in global risk appetite, growth expectations, interest-rate expectations, and currency conditions. For NKY specifically, the immediate catalyst is price-led: renewed buying has restored short-term momentum and brought an important resistance area back into play. Momentum roughly 3.0 percent up over the last two weeks. That strength suggests investors are rebuilding exposure, although the market still needs confirmation before the move can be treated as a sustained advance rather than a recovery within a wider range.
The one month average 64,719 matters because it currently separates improving short-term demand from renewed deterioration. Price is above it, and the structure reads as a recovery attempt, back above the one-month average but still under the longer one. That leaves the market constructive, but not fully repaired. The nearer round number handles at 66,000 and 65,000 should shape near-term positioning. Holding 65,000 would show that buyers are defending the rebound, while acceptance above 66,000 would indicate that supply is being absorbed. The month swing high 66,843, about 1.4 percent above the current price, is the decisive barrier. Beyond it, the three month range 60,449 to 70,385 provides the broader map. A shelf of support at 62,726, about 4.8 percent below, is where the recovery thesis would face its strongest test because that area should attract buyers who missed the initial rebound.
The bull path is straightforward: if 65,000 holds, then the market can consolidate above the one month average 64,719 and press through 66,000. If buyers then deliver a decisive move above 66,843, that opens the path toward 70,385 as the recovery gains broader confirmation and sellers are forced to reassess. The bear path begins if price cannot sustain trade around 66,000 and falls back below 65,000. If that weakness extends through the one month average 64,719, then attention shifts to 62,726. Losing 62,726 exposes 60,449 and would recast the rebound as a failed recovery attempt.
The main risk is a sharp reversal in the wider macro tone that overwhelms improving domestic index demand. The read would also be invalidated by repeated rejection below 66,843 followed by a loss of 62,726, since that sequence would demonstrate that sellers still control the larger range. Net, NKY has a constructive near-term bias, but the market is approaching proof territory: defend 65,000 and clear 66,843, or risk surrendering the recovery back toward the lower end of the three month range.
