Gold (XAU/USD) – Daily Read

24 October 2026 | Commodity | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
$4,039.90

Gold is under clear pressure at $4,040 after finishing the last session 2.8 percent lower, and the immediate view remains bearish because price is down near the floor of its one-month range rather than stabilising in the middle of it. That matters because weakness at the bottom of a recent range often reflects urgent supply, leaving little room for disappointment before a routine pullback becomes a deeper repricing.

The broader commodity backdrop matters only insofar as shifting expectations for real yields and the dollar can amplify gold positioning, but the instrument-specific catalyst is the rejection from the month swing high at $4,489 and the subsequent failure to regain its one month average at $4,224. The swing high remains about 11.1 percent above the current price, while momentum is roughly 3.0 percent down over the last two weeks. Price is below the $4,224 average, and the structure reads as a downtrend, price under both its one-month and longer averages, which means rallies currently face the burden of proof.

The immediate battle is concentrated around a shelf of support at $4,037, about 0.08 percent below, because that level is effectively being tested at the current price and must attract enough demand to interrupt the decline. The nearer round number handles at $4,100 and $4,000 also matter, but they serve different purposes: $4,100 is the first area that would show recovery traction, while $4,000 is a psychological line where demand may try to defend the lower boundary. The three month range of $3,993 to $4,760 provides the larger map, which means a failure at the nearby shelf would place gold almost immediately against the range floor, while recovery still has substantial overhead supply to clear.

The bull path is straightforward but demanding. If $4,037 holds, then gold can first stabilise around $4,000, reclaim $4,100 and challenge the $4,224 one month average; that sequence would matter because each step would show that forced pressure is fading and demand is rebuilding control. If strength then becomes a decisive move above $4,489, it opens the path toward $4,760, with the prior month swing high changing from resistance into confirmation of a broader recovery. The bear path is more immediate. If gold loses $4,037 with conviction, then it exposes $3,993 because there is little distance between the support shelf and the bottom of the three month range.

The central risk to the bearish view is a rapid reversal that holds above $4,100 and then recovers $4,224, because that would undermine the pattern of failed rebounds and suggest the latest washout exhausted nearby supply. Full invalidation requires a decisive move above $4,489, while a break beneath $3,993 would instead confirm that weakness has escaped the established range and could extend without a nearby reference floor. Net, $4,037 is the pivot: holding it permits repair, but losing it keeps control firmly with the bears.
