US Dollar Index (DXY) – Daily Read

$101.09
The US Dollar Index is leaning higher, with DXY at 101.09, 0.0 percent lower on the day, while pressing the top of its one-month range. The important point is that the dollar is holding strength rather than surrendering it after a sustained advance. Momentum is roughly 2.0 percent up over the last two weeks, and the structure reads as a clean uptrend, with price above both its one-month and longer averages. The view is constructive, but the market is now close enough to resistance that confirmation matters more than anticipation.
The macro backdrop favors a contest between relative rate expectations, growth resilience, and demand for liquidity. The dollar benefits when US policy expectations remain firmer than those elsewhere, when global growth concerns encourage defensive positioning, or when investors reduce exposure to risk. It struggles when confidence broadens, overseas currencies attract stronger flows, or expectations shift toward a softer US policy path. For this instrument specifically, the one month average at 99.69 shows that recent dollar demand has established itself above the market’s central trading area. Holding above that reference keeps buyers in control, but positioning near the range ceiling also leaves DXY vulnerable if fresh catalysts fail to extend the move.
The month swing high at 101.23, about 0.1 percent above the current price, is the immediate test. Sellers can defend it because previous highs offer a natural point for profit taking and fresh countertrend exposure. A decisive move above 101.23 would show that this supply has been absorbed and opens the path toward 101.64, the upper boundary of the three month range of 98.56 to 101.64. Beyond that, 102.00 is the next nearer round number handle, where option interest, positioning adjustments, and profit taking could intensify. On the downside, 100.00 is the first nearer round number handle that should attract dip buyers because it preserves the broader upward structure. The more important shelf of support is 98.60, about 2.5 percent below. It is defended by buyers who view the recent advance as durable, while its proximity to the broader range floor gives it structural importance. Losing 98.60 exposes 98.00 and would signal that the current advance has failed rather than merely paused.
The bull path is straightforward: if DXY clears 101.23 decisively and then holds that area on a pullback, buyers should retain control toward 101.64, with acceptance there bringing 102.00 into focus. That sequence would confirm that demand is strong enough to convert former resistance into support. The bear path begins if repeated failures at 101.23 produce a retreat through 100.00. If that loss is sustained, the market would likely rotate toward 99.69, where buyers must reassert control. If they cannot, pressure builds toward 98.60, and losing 98.60 exposes 98.00.
The principal risk to the bullish read is a macro repricing that weakens relative dollar demand just as DXY confronts established supply. A failure at 101.23 alone would not invalidate the trend, but sustained trade below 99.69 would materially weaken it. The decisive invalidation is a loss of 98.60. Net, the dollar remains favored while above its central support structure, but the next clean opportunity requires proof above 101.23 rather than confidence based solely on recent strength.
