Copper – Daily Read
25 September 2026 | Commodity | Titan Macro Desk
$6.82
Copper is consolidating strength rather than reversing course. Last price $6.82, 1.0 percent lower on the day, but that decline sits inside a constructive structure as it is pressing the top of its one-month range. The clear view is that buyers retain control while price holds nearby support, although the market now needs a breakout to justify chasing the move. This matters because copper is testing the point where an established advance either broadens into price discovery or becomes vulnerable to profit-taking.
The macro backdrop revolves around shifting expectations for global manufacturing, infrastructure demand, interest rates, and the dollar. Copper is especially sensitive to whether investors see improving industrial activity ahead, but its immediate behavior also reflects tight positioning near a well-defined ceiling. Momentum roughly 4.5 percent up over the last two weeks shows that buyers have approached resistance with force. One month average $6.66; price is above it, and the structure reads as a clean uptrend, price above both its one-month and longer averages. That keeps dips attractive unless the market starts accepting lower prices rather than merely testing them.
The nearer round number handles at $7.00 and $6.80 define the immediate contest. Holding $6.80 would show that buyers are defending the latest advance close to the highs, limiting the room for sellers to build conviction. The month swing high $6.93, about 1.5 percent above the current price, is the decisive ceiling because it marks the upper edge of both the recent swing and the wider three month range $6.02 to $6.93. Above it, supply from prior highs should thin and attention should shift quickly toward the next round handle. Below the market, a shelf of support at $6.40, about 6.2 percent below, is the more important structural defense. It represents the area where buyers must reassert control if a deeper pullback develops. Losing it would change the character from consolidation near the highs to a meaningful deterioration in trend.
The bull path is straightforward: if copper holds $6.80, absorbs selling around the recent peak, and secures a decisive move above $6.93, then the breakout opens the path toward $7.00. Acceptance there would confirm that demand is strong enough to move beyond the existing range. The bear path begins if $6.80 fails and rebounds become shallow. If selling then pushes through $6.40, the bullish structure loses its key defense and losing $6.40 exposes $6.02.
The main risk to the constructive view is that recent strength has already concentrated buying near resistance, leaving the market sensitive to a firmer dollar, weaker industrial expectations, or broad commodity liquidation. Repeated failure below $6.93 would suggest that sellers are successfully using strength to reduce exposure. A sustained move beneath the one-month average $6.66 would further weaken near-term control, even before the major support test.
The read is invalidated by clear acceptance below $6.40. Until then, the net take remains bullish but selective: copper has earned respect through trend and momentum, yet $6.93 must break decisively before the market can credibly convert pressure at the range top into continuation toward $7.00.
