AUD/USD – Daily Read

15 October 2026 | Forex | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
0.6958

AUD/USD at 0.6958 is caught between tentative short-term stabilization and a still-dominant downward structure. The last session change was 0.2 percent lower, while momentum is roughly 0.3 percent up over the last two weeks, which means the pair is attempting to recover without yet changing the broader direction. The clear view is cautious: resilience near support can produce a rebound, but strength below established resistance remains corrective rather than a durable turn.

The pair is trading in the lower half of its one-month range and below the one month average at 0.7003, with price under both its one-month and longer averages. That structure reads as a downtrend because rallies have not restored control above the recent central value. The macro backdrop matters through the Australian dollar’s sensitivity to growth sentiment and the US dollar’s defensive role, which means shifts in global risk appetite can amplify the existing price structure rather than create a separate story. The recent positive momentum shows pressure has eased, but it does not override where price sits within the range.

The first important handle is 0.7000, which matters because it sits close to the one month average at 0.7003 and therefore separates a weak rebound from a more credible recovery. Sustained trade above that area would reduce immediate downside pressure, although the month swing high at 0.7142 remains the decisive resistance, about 2.6 percent above the current price. That level marks the upper boundary of the recent swing, so clearing it would show that supply has been absorbed. Below spot, a shelf of support at 0.6907 sits about 0.7 percent below and also defines the bottom of the three month range from 0.6907 to 0.7241. It is defended by recent range memory, while the nearer round number handle at 0.6800 becomes relevant only if that shelf fails.

The bull path is straightforward because each recovery step must repair visible structural damage. If AUD/USD reclaims 0.7000, holds above 0.7003, and then presses through 0.7142 decisively, the path opens toward 0.7241. That sequence would shift the interpretation from stabilization to trend repair because price would have recovered its recent average and broken the month swing high. The bear path begins if rebounds continue to stall below 0.7000 and 0.7003. If 0.6907 then gives way decisively, 0.6800 is exposed, which means the three month floor has failed and the prevailing downtrend has resumed with greater conviction.

The principal risk to the cautious view is a rapid improvement in risk appetite that carries the pair through 0.7142, because that would invalidate the assumption that current strength is merely corrective. Conversely, repeated failure around 0.7000 followed by a loss of 0.6907 would invalidate the stabilization case. Net, 0.6958 leaves AUD/USD close enough to support for a rebound, but the burden of proof remains on the upside until 0.7003 is recovered and 0.7142 is decisively cleared.
