EUR/USD – Daily Read

1.1233
EUR/USD is trying to stabilize, but the burden of proof remains on euro buyers. Last price 1.1233, 0.3 percent lower on the day, leaves the pair down near the floor of its one-month range. That matters because weakness is no longer a routine pullback within a rising market. The structure reads as a downtrend, price under both its one-month and longer averages, while momentum is roughly 1.4 percent down over the last two weeks. The clear view is that rallies remain vulnerable unless the euro can rebuild acceptance above nearby resistance.
The macro backdrop is a contest between relative central-bank expectations and a European political risk premium. Softer energy prices and signs that the Federal Reserve may be patient can restrain the dollar, but the euro is struggling to benefit because fiscal and political uncertainty in Europe is raising concern about sovereign bond markets and the policy response. That tension is specific to the asset class: EUR/USD trades the relative outlook, not either economy in isolation. Today’s Federal Reserve communication can shift the dollar side of that equation, while developments in European bond markets and confidence in fiscal governance remain the more direct euro catalyst.
The one month average at 1.1373 is the first meaningful measure of whether the decline is losing control. Price is below it, so sellers can defend rallies before that reference and keep the short-term structure heavy. The nearer round number handles at 1.1400 and 1.1200 frame the immediate battle. Recovering 1.1400 would suggest demand is becoming more durable, whereas sustained trade below 1.1200 would show that buyers are failing close to the range floor. A shelf of support at 1.1166, about 0.6 percent below, is the critical downside defense because it is also the bottom of the three month range 1.1166 to 1.1715. The month swing high at 1.1604, about 3.3 percent above the current price, is the main upside barrier and the point at which the broader bearish structure would be seriously challenged.
If buyers protect 1.1200, hold 1.1166, and then reclaim 1.1373, the market can press through 1.1400 as short positioning is forced to adjust. If that recovery develops into a decisive move above 1.1604, it opens the path toward 1.1715, with the range ceiling becoming the logical test. If rebounds instead fail beneath 1.1373 and sellers force sustained trade through 1.1200, pressure returns directly to 1.1166. Losing 1.1166 exposes 1.1000, because the established range floor would no longer be containing supply.
The principal risk to the bearish view is a combination of calmer European bond markets, improved political visibility, and Federal Reserve communication that weakens the dollar. A durable recovery above 1.1604 would invalidate the current downtrend read. The bullish alternative fails if 1.1166 breaks and cannot be reclaimed. Net, the euro is stretched near support and capable of a rebound, but until it recovers 1.1373 and 1.1400, that rebound should be treated as corrective rather than a confirmed turn.
