EUR/GBP – Daily Read

0.8606
EUR/GBP is testing the top of its one-month range with the balance of risk still tilted higher, but the trade is now entering the part of the move where confirmation matters more than anticipation. Last price is 0.8606, 0.0 percent lower on the day, so the session itself is quiet even as the broader structure remains constructive. The significance is straightforward: the euro has built sustained pressure against sterling, and a clean range break would turn that pressure into a broader advance rather than another failed probe of resistance.
The macro backdrop is a relative contest between two currencies facing different growth and inflation concerns. Recent evidence of softer UK business activity alongside persistent cost pressure has complicated the sterling outlook, while comparatively steadier euro-area activity has given the euro room to recover. For this cross, the catalyst is therefore not simply broad euro strength. It is the market reassessing which economy offers the cleaner mix of resilience and policy flexibility. That relative story is reflected in momentum, roughly 0.6 percent up over the last two weeks, and in price holding above the one month average of 0.8583. Price is also above its longer averages, so the structure reads as a clean uptrend rather than a short-lived bounce.
The immediate battle is around the nearer round number handle at 0.8600. Holding above it keeps buyers in control and signals that earlier resistance is becoming a base. The month swing high at 0.8612, about 0.1 percent above the current price, is the real confirmation point because it caps the present range and is where profit-taking and fresh selling are most likely to appear. A decisive move above 0.8612 opens the path toward 0.8651, the upper boundary of the three month range of 0.8489 to 0.8651. Clearing that boundary would indicate that the advance is broadening beyond the recent range. The other round number handle at 0.8800 is a more distant psychological reference, relevant only if the market can establish itself beyond the existing three month ceiling.
On the downside, a shelf of support at 0.8549, about 0.7 percent below, matters because it marks the area where buyers should defend the trend on a meaningful pullback. It also sits below the one month average, making it the stronger test of whether the current structure remains intact. If price holds 0.8600 and then breaks 0.8612 decisively, buyers should press toward 0.8651, with acceptance there shifting attention toward 0.8800. If resistance at 0.8612 holds and price slips back through 0.8600, consolidation becomes more likely. If selling then breaks 0.8549, the bullish structure is damaged and 0.8489 is exposed.
The main risk is that relative macro expectations reverse, whether through firmer UK activity, greater euro-area weakness, or a policy repricing that restores sterling support. The read is invalidated by a sustained loss of 0.8549, not by routine hesitation near the range high. Net, EUR/GBP remains constructive, but the strongest bullish signal now requires a decisive break rather than another marginal test of 0.8612.
