DAX 40 (DAX) – Daily Read

28 September 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk

Last Price
25,408.6

The DAX 40 (DAX) is consolidating with a negative underlying bias rather than building a convincing base. Last price is 25,409, 0.0 percent higher on the day, but that surface stability masks a weaker structure. It is trading in the lower half of its one-month range, momentum is roughly 0.5 percent down over the last two weeks, and rallies have yet to repair the broader loss of control. The clear view is cautious: sellers retain the advantage while price remains beneath the recent range ceiling, although nearby support means the next directional move still requires confirmation.

The macro backdrop matters through its effect on growth expectations, financing conditions, currencies, and global risk appetite. For an export-heavy European index, shifts in expected industrial demand and international trade can quickly change how investors price earnings resilience. The immediate instrument-specific issue is positioning inside the recent range. The one month average is 25,531; price is below it, and the structure reads as a downtrend, price under both its one-month and longer averages. That alignment suggests supply is still appearing into strength. With no daily advance to force a reassessment, buyers need more than stability to demonstrate that demand is becoming durable.

The nearest round number handle at 25,500 matters because it sits close to the one month average and therefore marks the first test of whether buyers can reclaim lost ground. Sustained trade above that area would improve near-term tone, but it would not by itself reverse the downtrend. Below, a shelf of support at 25,164, about 1.0 percent below, is the key defensive zone. It is close enough to attract dip buyers, yet repeated pressure there would indicate that demand is being absorbed. The 25,000 handle adds psychological importance beneath it, but losing the shelf would make that round number look more like a waypoint than a durable floor.

The month swing high is 26,168, about 3.0 percent above the current price. That is the decisive upside boundary because clearing it would remove the most relevant recent supply point. A decisive move above 26,168 opens the path toward 26,619, which is also the upper edge of the three month range 24,697 to 26,619. If buyers reclaim 25,500, hold above the one month average, and then force acceptance beyond the month swing high, the bull path becomes a credible range expansion rather than a temporary rebound.

The bear path is equally direct. If price fails around 25,500 and pressure returns, then 25,164 becomes the test of whether buyers still defend the lower range. Losing 25,164 exposes 24,697, the three month floor, and would confirm that weakness is broadening. A recovery that holds above 26,168 would invalidate the bearish lean, while a failure to follow through after breaking support would weaken the downside case. Net, the DAX remains vulnerable below its averages, with 25,164 carrying more immediate importance than upside hopes until buyers prove otherwise.
