DAX 40 (DAX) – Daily Read
28 August 2026 | Index | Titan Macro Desk
26,504.8
DAX 40 is extending higher, with the last price at 26,505, 0.5 percent higher on the day, and pressing the top of its one-month range. The key message is that buyers remain in control, but the index is now testing the point where a healthy advance must become a confirmed breakout. The trend supports a bullish view, while proximity to major resistance argues for discipline rather than chasing strength before the market proves it can hold new ground.
The broader macro regime remains balanced ahead of the weekend. Hotter-than-expected inflation prints in France and Spain lifted near term rate expectations, while steady Japanese labour data and modest upside in Tokyo CPI kept the BoJ policy path intact. EURUSD and GBPUSD both fell over half a percent as the dollar gained ground. For European equities, that backdrop is mixed: firmer rate expectations can restrain valuations, but the currency move may help internationally exposed DAX businesses. The index’s resilience therefore matters. It suggests the immediate bid is being driven more by underlying equity demand and confidence in large exporters than by an unambiguously supportive macro impulse.
The one month average at 26,268 is the first reference for trend quality. Price is above it, and the structure reads as a clean uptrend, with price above both its one-month and longer averages. Momentum is roughly 0.6 percent up over the last two weeks, which is constructive without looking disorderly. The nearer 26,500 round number handle now matters as an immediate pivot. Holding above it shows buyers are accepting current prices rather than merely probing resistance. Slipping back below it would not reverse the trend, but it would warn that the breakout attempt lacks commitment.
The month swing high at 26,574, about 0.3 percent above the current price, is the decisive ceiling. It is also the upper boundary of the three month range at 23,797 to 26,574, so a break would carry more meaning than a routine intraday extension. A decisive move above 26,574 opens the path toward 27,000, where the next round number handle is likely to attract profit-taking and fresh supply. Below the market, a shelf of support at 25,550, about 3.6 percent below, is the more important structural defence. It marks the area where dip buyers must reassert control if the current advance unwinds. Losing 25,550 exposes 23,797 and would turn a contained pullback into a much broader range retracement.
The bull path is straightforward: if DAX holds 26,500 and clears 26,574 decisively, then acceptance above the prior range should draw follow-through toward 27,000. The bear path begins if rejection at 26,574 pushes price back through 26,500 and selling persists. If 25,550 then fails, the market would have lost its key shelf and 23,797 becomes the downside reference.
The main risk is a false break near the weekend, especially with European rate expectations firming and the dollar strengthening. Sustained failure above 26,574 would temper the bullish case, while a loss of 25,550 would invalidate it. Net, the trend remains bullish, but confirmation now requires a clean break and hold above the range high.
