Adobe has fallen from a 52-week high near $376 to roughly $253, and that drawdown is where the opportunity sits. On our work the business quality has not changed, but the price has, and it now trades below what we think the company is worth. This is the setup we look for: a durable franchise on sale, and one that passes our ethical screen on both standards we run.

What Adobe Does and Why It Matters

Adobe is the undisputed leader in creative software, with Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and the broader Creative Cloud suite serving as the industry standard for designers, photographers, videographers, and marketers worldwide. It also runs large businesses in document management (Acrobat, PDF) and digital experience and marketing analytics.

The Creative Cloud franchise has one of the deepest moats in software. Photoshop has been the verb for image editing for three decades. When creative professionals learn Adobe tools at university, they carry those skills into their careers, creating a self-reinforcing cycle of adoption. The switching costs are not just financial but cognitive and workflow-based, which makes them exceptionally durable. That is why we grade the moat as strong and the business quality near the top of everything we screen.

Adobe has moved early on generative AI through Firefly, its image model, trained on Adobe Stock and licensed content. That sets it apart from competitors facing intellectual property challenges, and it positions Adobe to capture the productivity gains from AI inside a subscription base it already owns rather than be disrupted by them.

The Value Case

At $253, Adobe trades at roughly a 19% discount to our conservative fair value of about $312, and well below a growth-weighted estimate closer to $450. That gap is our margin of safety, the cushion between price and worth that protects capital if we are wrong on the details.

The financials back the quality read. Free cash flow margins are among the highest in software, near a 10% free-cash-flow yield on the current price. Return on equity runs above 60%, operating margins sit in the mid-30s, and the balance sheet is clean with low leverage. On forward earnings the stock trades near single-digit multiples, a level that historically has marked pessimism rather than euphoria for a franchise of this calibre.

The debate is growth. The market has marked Adobe down on the fear that AI lowers the barrier to content creation. Our view is the opposite is more likely: Adobe monetises AI through upgrades and new users inside a base it already owns, and the Firefly licensing model is a genuine edge as rights and provenance become central. If growth reaccelerates, the discount closes. If growth merely holds, the multiple is already undemanding.

Ethical Screening: Compliant on Both Standards

Adobe passes our ethical screen, and it does so on both frameworks we run in parallel, so there is no divergence to weigh. Its business activities are clean, and on the financial-ratio tests it clears comfortably: interest-bearing debt sits well inside the one-third threshold and non-compliant income is negligible. This is a company a values-conscious or Shariah-conscious investor can hold without a caveat.

Beyond the screen, Adobe has been constructive on the ethics of AI itself. Its Content Authenticity Initiative provides tools to verify the origin and editing history of digital content, and training Firefly only on licensed content respects creator rights, which stands out in a field where many peers trained on copyrighted material without consent.

What to Watch

Firefly adoption: usage of AI features within Creative Cloud is the clearest sign of whether AI is driving engagement and monetisation.

Net new recurring revenue: subscription additions show the health of the base. Watch for acceleration from AI-driven upgrades.

Competitive dynamics: share trends versus Canva in design and Figma in collaboration. The failed Figma deal removed a cost but not the pressure that motivated it.
