The Business, in Plain Words

Defence supplier fails ethics and valuation test

Supplying parts that end up inside military jets or nuclear plants gives Curtiss-Wright steady work, yet the business sits on the wrong side of our ethical screen from the outset.

We pass because the aerospace and defence exposure triggers an outright exclusion and the shares already price in perfection at 41 times forward earnings against our lower fair value. Revenue growth of 13 percent and a 20 percent return on equity look respectable on paper but do not offset the premium valuation or the narrow moat.

Even the analyst consensus target above the current price cannot change the fact that peak-cycle earnings in defence often look cheap on a low multiple only to disappoint later. Analysis, not advice.
